Subject: Once and for all!! IP: Logged
Message: Well I currently have IDQ10'S V.1 in my Thunderform, but I just don't have the power to properly drive them. My amp is a USAmps pushing 350W which just is not enough for two IDQ10's in a sealed enclosure. I love this amp.
What QUALITY efficient SQ subs will fit in a thunderform?
Are there any JL audio subs that will fit?
I know this question has been asked before, but speaker models change ever year or so.
Thanks

Message: Well the reason I just don't get a more powerful is that my amps is a five channel USAmps 4X75+350X1 which sounds awsome. I do not want to run a two amp set up(lack of room).
Joe, I look into the vega's.
SilverD, the Thunderform is about five inches deep but it is not completely flat on the bottom so the sub can not have too big of a magnet.
Thanks

Message: SilverD, the CDT subs would be ideal, but the only proplem is CDT does not reccomend using them in enclosures which share(two or more subs) the same airspace.
Thanks

Message: I've never seen a thunderform in person, but are you sure that they aren't divided in the middle? If they aren't, you wouldn't want to run each sub off a different channel (stereo). Since the woofers would be in the same box, but playing different frequencies there would have to be some cancelation and loss of SQ. A mono signal would have to be used to prevent this. If I were to build a box similar to the thunderform, I would make a point to separate the two subs. It would only improve the box: more bracing, could use two seperate channels for subs. You would think a $200 box would have them separated. If I'm wrong with what I have stated above, then explain why the CDT's need to be used in seperate boxes. I think they are a great deal and not worth writing off yet.

Message: I know it's mono....I was trying to reason with him. Why wouldn't the CDT's work? If you give them the same space in separate boxes or sharing one, it shouldn't matter. Since his power for the subs is mono they will be playing the same thing, thus one box is OK. Will someone answer my question...is the thunderform a single encloser or seperate?

Message: SilverD the Thunderform is one sealed chamber.
CDT's engineers are the ones that say not to use them in a shared enclosure, mono or stereo. It's has to do with the characteristics of the MS series subs.
I've been tweeking my amps gains and crossover settings and the sound level has gotten better but it still a little under powered.
Thanks

Message: Does the amps suboutput, match the impedance of the idq's impedance? And are they wired up optimally. If not, there is more to be had with the amp and subs you already have.Example-If the amp is stable to 2 ohms on that mono channel, your subs should be wired for a total,2 ohm load.If the total load is higher than 2ohms,your loosing out on power.

Message: Millhouse, both of those subs you mentioned will not fit in a thunderform.
My amp is only two ohm stable(which I'm using) so Dual voice coils subs would actually make the situation worse.

Message: Dakman-
If you did find some dual voice coils that were a good deal. They may be able to be used at 2 ohm. If they were dual 2ohm woofs, you could wire the coils in series to get 4 ohms then wire the two subs in parallel to get 2 ohms. They can be used in many configurations.

Message: SilverD, your correct that Dual voice subs will work, what I'm saying is they need more power per sub since they are dual voice coil.
Dual voice coil subs are not designed to be eficient they are deigned to handle more power and play louder.
Thanks
