Subject: 4-8" subs in quad cab IP: Logged
Message: I went to Car Toys yesterday and priced a system with them. They said they can make a box behind the passenger seat and put 4 8" JL audio subs back there. I am getting Infinity reference speakers in the doors. I will have a JL 500-1 amp for the subs and a JL 300-4 amp for the door speakers. I am keeping the stock head unit for appearance. What do you guys think about this setup. thanks

Message: Man I wouldn't buy anything from Car Toys. I don't know what kind of price they gave you on those amps. But I do know if you shop around you can find them for a lot cheaper. I was going to get the Jl Audio 1000/1 & 300/4 before I decided to go with the Memphis ST1000/1 & ST300/4. They wanted 1000.00 just for the JL 1000/1 at Car toys. I did some checking around & found a place to get both Jl Audio amps for 1300.00. But the Memphis Amps are still cheaper then the JL's. I'm gettin both Memphis Studio Amps for $740.00. So do some homework before you just run to Car Toys & get ripped off. Just trying to save you a little $!!

Message: Dude, with 4 8" subs behind the seat the box is going to be WAY!! too small. You wont be able to turn them up at all. It is also going to be hard to fit them back there. I had 2 10" Plannet Audio neo subs (3" mounting depth) and they bearly fit in the box. The box was 4 times too small. I took 1 sub out and now the box is 1/2 the size it should and I can tell. It sounds a whole lot better now that I took out that one sub. The box I built was the biggest I could build with being able to put the seats back in the truck. One 8" JL, if it can really even fit, will be better than 4. The subs will be chocked on air space and just make a sort of poping sound instead of a bass sound. About the head unit, i have a aftermarket in my truck and the spacer blends right into the dash. Looks great. I have a 02 quad cab by the way. So thats up to you, you could go with the 4 8" subs and that EXPENSIVE amp or you could go with one 8" sub and a much less powered and costly amp and it will sound better. I did the entire system in my truck myself, and I have done a few friends systems, I know what im talking about. But thats up to you. If you have any questions email me at.... blackdak20@aol.com. Thats my 2 cents

Message: They did the install on Saturday. They could only put 3-8"JL subs back there. I found a place on the net where I could have saved 100.00 on each amp after I had already purchased them. Oh well. Anyway, the system sounds great. I did spend a little more than I wanted to on parts and laber but I can say they did a jam up job. The system hits extremely good for 3-8s.

Message: Hey Jeff, sorry but there is nothing to take pictures of. Everything is stock looking. The box for the subs that they make is hidden behind the rear seat. They made use of all the space back there so the subs would have the right air space. The box is notched so it goes over the brackets and hinges for the seats. The amps fit under the front seats. I am very happy with the work. It sounds like there are a couple of 10s back there. I might pull out my back seat(sometime) to look at the work. If I do I will take a picture of the box for you. Give me your email and I will send picts to you if I ever look back there. Thanks Kevin
