Subject: I love to waste money... IP: Logged
Message: I put the Boston FX6 6 1/2" coax in the front doors of my 2002 Dak, and I purchased a set of adapter rings at Best Buy, since I knew that the stock speakers were oversized 6 3/4". The guy also said, "You'll need a pair of these speaker harness adapters, too", which I knew would help out, so I bought them. I get home and pull the speakers out of the box...lo and behold, the basket is too big for the freaking hole in the adapters. OK, fine, I figure I'll make my own adapters if I need to. I take the doors apart and remove the stock speakers, and unplug the connector. I go to plug in the new speaker adapter harness, and it's the wrong connector style. The speakers are just large enough that I can install them in the door without using ANY adapter, with the help of some careful drilling and some #8 self tapping screws, and I end up cutting the connector off the factory pigtail and splicing in the wires off the adapter harness, then heat shrinking them and zip tying them so they don't flop around. It all worked admirably, but I spent $20 for nothing. At least I did use the Dynamat that I bought. Such is the story of my life...

Message: If you didn't actually use the adapters and connectors I'd take them back. If they give you a hard time I'd just say (guys name) told me I'd need them and the didn't work I want my money back. If still won't cooperate ask to see the manager.

Message: No, I'm not running the speakers off of an amp...not yet, anyway. The head unit is still the stock rig. Even so, they sound a whole lot better than the stock speakers. I didn't know how much of the highs were missing until I heard these new speakers. My future plans are to install an Alpine CDM-7874 head unit, and maybe an MRPF200 amp. I'm not looking to win any contests or blow the windows out of the car next to me...just want nice lows, and clean midrange at decent listening volume.
I'll probably take the adapters back...that particular Best Buy is about 15 miles from home. I was mainly irritated that a person can go out of their way (I went to 3 different places before I found these adapters at Best Buy), trying to get all the parts needed to do a job, and waste a whole morning, all for nothing. I just needed an outlet for my frustration...thanks for listening!...P
