Subject: DIN head unit & 1/2 DIN pre-amp in dash? IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if a full DIN size head unit and a 1/2 DIN sized pre-amp component can be made to fit in the dash opening for the stock stereo with no cutting of the dash? My Nakamichi 45z just looks so....'alone and centered on the oversized adapter plate. I think it needs an in-dask EQ to keep it company.

Message: I would suggest that you don't install an indash EQ just to keep your Nak company. Most indash EQs are nothing more than glorified bass and treble controls, they don't have more than 8 or 9 frequency bands. You wouldn't want to ruin the crystal clear sound of the sweet a$$ Nak deck now would you?

Message: I have tried:
Kicker, Pioneer and Crossfire pre-amps and everyone complicated my sound quality and added a hiss. They are fun to play with but are not really a good addition to a quality system.
You may ask around and see if anyone had much luck with them.

Message: exactly... i've had a bunch of EQs in dash with custom mounting plates.. they really do just add another source of possible noise introduction. I have a PPI PAR-245 EQ I can't even use, because it introduces noise into the system..
i dont have a truck btw, i was just browsing install pages..

Message: I beg to differ. I currently have a JVC KD-lx50 El Kamelion with an Orion NT indash EQ. The system sounded nice untill I installed the EQ and than it just sounded bad-a$$. The EQ is running an 8v preamp signal and uses balanced lines to the amps. I installed it indash using a mounting kit found at bestbuy. That way I could have the stereo and EQ mounted together, but it was a tight fit and I couldn't use the trim ring for the EQ.
