Subject: How exactly to install speakers?

This is going to seem like a ridiculous question but this is my first carthat i bought myself and have been able to try to do the audio myself. I have plenty of other audio/video equpment to install or have installed and figured I would save some $$$ by installing the front and rear speakers myself.

When I removed the door poanel and the speaker I ran into somehing i don't know how to do. The speakers on the dakota are those clips, but the speakers I bought have two seperate wires that have metal strips that connect to the speaker. Hope someone follows that. Do I just strip the factory wires and connect the new wire tipes to the end of the factory wires. If so there is a green and red wire on the factory which is which.

Sorry for the stupidity in that language. I prmise to be more intelligetn from this point on.

rip the connector off the factory speaker and remount to the new speakers, or, strip the wires, and tie directly into the new speaker terminals.
Odds have it that the red wire is positve, however to check, wire it up both ways and see which way has better bass response.
It won't hurt anything to wire it up backwards, just effect your bass response from the new speakers.

If you're happy with the factory wiring then just cut off the clip and attach the wires to the new speakers directly. You could swap over the clip on the factory speaker if you wanted but it isn't necessary if you solder the wires on properly. As for which wires are which well the Chrysler/Dodge wiring code is as follows:

Blue/White stripe = Right Rear -
Brown/ yellow Stripe = Left Rear -
Purple = Right Front +
Dark Green = Left front +
Blue/orange stripe = Right rear +
Brown/Blue Stripe = Left rear +
Blue/Red stripe = Right front -
Brown/Red stripe = Left front -

As I remember when I wired in my new head unit in some of the colors were slightly different than what is listed here, but they were similar so if you just use some common sense you can match them up easily. Good luck.

Thanks for your help. I got the speakers set up but I bought the 6 1/2" speakers instead of the 6 3/4 due to some page on the net that said i should by the 6.5's I'm likely going to use the mdf board idea to accomadate, but does any have any others ideas on how to do this? Does the local audio store sell A harness?

a harnes for the speakers, doubtfull -I've never seen one, but i guess that doesn't mean that they aren't available.
A harness for a deck definatley, and you could probably pick it up a wallmart for a third the price your local audio shop will charge, for the exact harness, packaging and all.

There are harnesses for the speakers. I bought mine through Crutchfield. I think they were about $5.00 or so plus shipping. Just call them and tell them what type of vehicle and speaker location. Using them took out all the guess work and made very good connections.
