Subject: Oil Filter Relocation IP: Logged
Message: Ive seen and hear of many diffrent kits for relocating your oil filter, and a dual filter setup for more filtering power...
i found this kit for around 62$... was wondering if its worth a look... dual filter setup and you bolt the new filters where you want...

also, how much do oil coolers run? how big? how and where would you mount it?

Message: Ross,
I've been thinking about this, too. The filter is such a pain when I change my oil. It's a gosh darn magic trick the way I shimmy it between my headers and the frame, full, without spilling oil.
From what I've seen, these kits are pretty self-explanatory. Besides truckperformance.com, though, you might also look at Summit or Jegs. I know they sell them as well. Not sure what the prices are between all of them, but I know Jegs has a pretty decent tech line if you're curious about the specs of their stuff. They were pretty helpful when I bought my centerforce clutch.
Not bashing truckperformance, by any means. I've bought plenty of stuff from them. Just saying you might find some options between all of them, and pick which would work best. Haven't done mine yet, so I'm no help with the install.
Let us know how it works out!

Message: Most of the relocater parts you see are cast alum. They will leak. They always do. Spend the big bucks and get billit alum from Canton, and use -8 or -10 AN fittings and lines. It's more expensive, but it will last forever and never leak. Ford parts fit the magnum engine. I'm not sure about the 4.7.
As for an oil cooler, it's like buying a trans cooler. How big depends on what you need. For a dailey driver, you don't need on at all. For towing heavy loads through death valley, you need a huge one. For mounting, you'll just have to use your imagination.
And make sure you use a thermostat. Otherwise, ithe oil will never get warm enough to work properly on the average steet truck. Canton makes a pretty good sandwich type thermostat. And Mocal makes a good in-line part.
For a daily driver that occasionally gets abused, I strongly suggest a heat exchanger rather than a cooler. It's more expensive, but easier to install, and provides much more temperature stability in all situations.

Message: i used a derale engine oil cooler kit from summit and a summit racing oil filter relocator for 3.9 when i had it turbocharged. worked very well... no leaky cast aluminum pieces. God Bless gaskets.
I'll see if i have any pix of any of that crap on how i mounted it. I do know that i mixed the pieces from the two kits to get it to work.
