Subject: A/C / Vent fan ? IP: Logged
Message: sometimes it won't come on for a while after I turn it on. The A/C works and the fan works, but it seems kind of quirky. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be?
thanks in advance

Message: if the ac works and the fan works than what is the problem....i think there is a little confusion in there and that is why no one has responded.

Message: They work on and off...I can start the truck in the morning and turn it on, and the fan won't work, but in the middle of driving it will turn on and work normally. This goes same w/ the A/C.
that's what I meant by quirky. 80% of the time, from startup, the fan doesn't work. Just wondering if something could be loose, or what? I'm a new owner of the truck, so I don't know much about the mechanics of them...But I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I can figure it out
Thanks for your help in advance

Message: sounds like a loose wire or something... maybe dusty switch or a bad switch......get a eletrical tester and turn your truck to the start position and test the wires going into the back of the switch. i don't know what wires to test though...
do you have a haynes manual?

Message: I wasn't sure if it was a short or whatever, but it's so random, that I was thinking that a wire may be loose and occasionally touches (hence it working only part of the time)
I don't have a haynes manual and they usually don't go in depth on things like that...they really aren't the best books out there...
I have a nice manual for my other car made by Helms, wonder if they have one for the Dakota.
As far as testing the wires, do you have an idea where they are/where they go to from the knob in the dash? Do they run along the dash to the computer or what?
Thanks again for your response

Message: with the haynes manual they have wiring diagrams in the back and can tell what wire is the switch and which is the "hot" when the truck is turned on. i don't know where the wires go either....just to the harness somewhere. if no luck on that then check the blower motor for connection or power.
i am not a good electrician but i am trying to help!
