 Subject: Transfer case is shot?

I've got an '87 dakota 3.9L. I just had the tranny rebuild about 3 months back and noticed some slipage while driving this weekend. I thought tranny, but my mechanic said he pulled the transfer case cover off and only a few drops of fluid came out. He is certain that is the reason for my troubles. Anyone know where to find one cheap. I tried local junkyards but can't hardly find one and if i do they want at least $650.00. Any ideas or suggestions would be a big help. Money is tight so i am looking for the cheapest or most efficient fix. I plan on selling the truck within the next 6 months, and can't afford to keep putting money into this thing. Time for a new DAK or Ram!
