Why is it that I can smell a little coolant most of the time when I get close to the front of my Dak after being driven? It has 26k on it as of now.

i have the same promblem. mine also used to bubble just after i shut it off. i replace the theromostat with a rob shaw 180 and check all of the clamps cap and drain plug now it is fine.
check your drain plug, you may also have a faulty raidiator cap.

I also have noticed a coolant smeel right after shutting my truck off. I Haven't been able to find any leaks or anything wrong. I have noticed the smell every once and a while since I bought my 99 Dakota about a year ago.
