hey, i jut got a flowmaster muffler, and was wondering if I needed it welded on, or if i could just use U-bolts or something of that nature.

I clamped my Gibson on about ... a year ago? No rattles yet. An impact wrench helps, as does an elctric saw to take off the old one.
