Subject: brake and tail lights IP: Logged
Message: My brake lights and tail lights just suddenly stopped working. The
headlights still work, and the rear blinkers, but none of the other
rear exterior lights. It's a 1999, and the mechanic cited 1000
dollars to fix it, but i was wondering if there was any other way to
figure it out, or if it was a problem that anyone else had...Thanks!

Message: Katie, have you checked the fuses yet? You say the blinkers work do you know if the brake lights work? The brake lights work through the the turn signals, so the brake lights should work as well. Its possible the other lights burned out, I have actually seen that happen before, while it is rare, it can happen. If you have already checked the easy stuff, there are a few things you can do, but may get dirty doing it. Get under the truck at the rear and find the wires and work your way towards the front looking for broken, wires, or wires that may have come unpluged. Also check for grounds, if you have a bad ground that can cause a lot of problems, however since you say the trun signals work that may not apply, still I would check all the wires and grounds anyway.
Good Luck
