Message: Anyone ever use Prestones 'Stops Leaks' to fix an antifreeze leak in the cab? Does it work? Any bad side effects?

Message: Hi ftheabus I have used many a rad sealers and with exception to one they all clogged the heater core. Though they did stop the leak but 2nd affect wasn't what anyone needed either. Here is the one that worked for me and without clogging up the heater core. I am sure the guys will mention another few good ones for you. I got it at auto zone.
AlumaSeal Radiator Sealer

Bars has some that look promising too but I have never used them so I can't say how they work.

Message: I have a 2000 Freightliner with a N14 Cummins diesel, it had some radiator problems and I had the tank replaced and they put the wrong one on and it warped the metal piece so bad that it wouldn't hold with the correct tank. (plastic) So I added some Alumaseal and haven't had any more problems, and no stopped up heater core either. I usually drive about 400-600 miles a day, during the week. I don't work on the weekends. I have been very pleased with the results. I have had the Alumaseal in since September 07 and still holding great.
Good Luck

Message: I have seen the aluminum sealer in block form and powder. either one is good. Unless they reformulated in resent years, if you drain the radiator, the sealer loses it's hold on the hole. Soooooo. Buy 2 and throw one in the jockey box just in case

Message: There is another alternative, but it is not cheap ( like $60 ). We used it on a truck with a bad head gasket. You pull the thermostat out, put the liquid in and run the vehicle for 30 minutes, then put the stat back in. It held for 6 months before we ended up replacing the head. It reacts with antifreeze and oxygen. The antifreeze blends with it and whenever it is exposed to air, it congeals and seals. it will only do this where it is exposed to air. Works on the same principle as a blood clot.
