Subject: 87 dak, what to do what to do IP: Logged
Message: I've had this 87 dodge dakota v6 3.9 litre engine (i believe) for a few years now, and recently my brother who's into modifying his vehicles with lift kits and suspension upgrades ect has gotten me interested in modifying it a bit. What fun stuff is fairly good to do for a beginner, that wont for instance destroy your engine if you mess up the first time you try it? I'd really like to lower it a bit and make it all around more flashy/powerful, its by no means mint condition so i'm not worried about having a good time with it and experimenting. I can afford to make a few mistakes, but have no starting point to work from, any advice would be appreciated.

Message: Rellik0147, if its the orginal engine, its either a 3.9 V6, or a 2.2 4. That still has a carb, so you could get a 4 bbl carb and intake, then open up the exhaust from the cat back to 2 1/2 inch all the way back to the end of the tail pipe. Then go from there, with more involved stuff like a bigger cam, ect. I would try the intake manifold carb and exhaust first. I would suggest a small 4bbl, like a 500 Edelbrock performance carb.
Good Luck
