Message: My 3.7L 04 Dakota lugs when going up hills with minimal slope. Truck doesn't have enough power to make the hill without lugging and won't down shift unless I step hard on the gas. Tach seems stuck at about 1200 rpm. On steeper hills it will down shift.
Dealer has basically rebuilt transmission and check plugs. Nothing seems to help.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Message: I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the TPS sensor (Throttle Position Sensor). This sensor is located on the drivers side of the throttle body. All youll need is a torx head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws. Sensor is around 30 bucks. Anyone can do this. Or if you have a digital meter test it?

computer not getting the correct info to tell
it HEY we are under load DOWNSHIFT Now
The computer is a great thing but if it gets
bad signals it don't know what is going on and
cant do its job right
Try a diff dealer
In this area of northern WI there is only
one mechanic at a dealer ship who knows what
he is doing the rest are just people who replace
parts and than give you a line of bull like
saying this is normal
atualy you are the first person I have heard
of having any trans probs with the new 5 speed
auto trans everyone I have worked on shifted
and downshifted very well these trucks were
here for like oil changes or minor perf probs
like flat spots or poor throttle response
a little tweaking and they were fine I also
think the 3.7 is a great little motor
We put a bigger throttle body on built a set
of headers cold air and a jet 2 chip on a
05 3.7 man what a diff it reved nice before
now its a little screamer
The flow increase was nice
Now this guy is thinking about some custom
cams for this little high reving motor next

Message: sorry forgot to mention the gas mileage on this
truck went from 20 to 24mpg that tells me doing
these few things made a big diff
This guy was very happy the only thing he griped
about was the $800 we charged to build the
custom headers

Message: Larry:
Thanks for the information. I told the dealer about the TPS and they replaced it. Still doesn't shift right. Now they are saying that the problem is with the software and Chrysler doesn't seem to think it is important enough to fix. And they wonder why their sales are declining.
I live in north/central Wisconsin so wondering where you are located. If you are in the area, I'd sure like someone else to take a look at it.
Thanks.

Message: Do you have a TV cable on this tranny like the older ones? If so, it's probably misadjusted.

Message: Thanks for all your input but still no fix. I e-mailed the service manager regarding the Dealer's Recall forum. He said they have already loaded this flash.
Also he said there is no TV cable on this tranny.
So still no solution. Drove the truck this weekend, and if anything, it is getting worse. Maybe something will just blow up or ignite, maybe then they can identify the problem.
Am taking it to another dealer on Thur.
Thanks again for your input.

Message: by all means, try another dealer. it's a shame you have to go through that but some dealers only worry about making the sale.
if you're lucky you find one that actually cares about making their customers happy.
