Subject: Window/door Schematic - 2001 IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking for the schematic/diagram of the front door and window assembly. My window has stopped working and become jammed, and I'd like to know how to fix it myself.
Note, this is a 2001 Dakota, with manual windows and locks.

Message: well if your dealing with hand cranck job windows there is no real schematic on how to tell ya to fix it.... basicly the window regulator has jammed up and seized.... so your looking to pull off the door panel and get a window regulator and replace it and your prob should be fixed.............

Message: I've pulled off the door panel so that I'm able to see into the bare dooor.
From what I can see, there's a nipple on a rod that's supposed to be riding in a track that's roughly in the middle of the door, running horizontal. That has come out of the track, but the metal part that would actually contact the glass to raise and lower it has become jammed up along the side of it, preventing it from moving.
I'm not familiar enough with the mechanism to know exactly what the regulator part is, unless you're refering to the whole system.

Message: yes i was referring to the whole thing..... that nipple you see i believe it has broken off the nylon wheel thats suppose to ride in a track that you see which is jammed.... you might be able to get that track to move free agian by moveing the window crank its self.... then you might be able to find the nylon wheel and try pressing it back on the nipple to buy ya sometime while you go and get new window regulator....

Message: After look at it, I see what you're talking about. I'm unable to move the regulator at all, as there is an arm pressed between my window glass and the doorframe. I believe that I could remove the regulator and related hardware without breaking the window, by removing it a piece at a time.
How hard of a job would this be? There's a shop near my house that'll charge me a flat $60 for labor. Thoughts?

Message: its actually easy to do.... but ya might wanna have them do it cause i believe the regulator is rivited to the door structure and it will need to be re-rivited to the door structure once replaced... if theres bolts holding it to the door structure then just unbolt the glass from the regulator and lift it to the full up position cause once the glass is unbolted it will have movement and be able to be moved away from the regulator so its not jammed and use masking tape to hold it up in the up position while you unbolt the regulator....
