My '99 4x4 xcab sport was totaled in a collision with a
16 yr old on Thanksgiving Eve. Totally her fault. The
truck WAS in great shape, very clean with 86,000 miles,
5 spd manual, pw, pdlocks, cruise, overhead console,
bedliner, fresh oil change. I'm trying to figure out how
much I should be getting from the Insurance Co. I have
already done research with Kelley Blue Book and
Edmunds and have compared market vaues here in the
DC area. I just had the rear-end rebuilt in June and a
new AC compressor and related parts replaced in July.
Between the two it was good chunk of change. I'm
wondering, how much of that new work can I tack onto
the value of the truck. Any thoughts?

you arne't going to get anything for those new parts.. sorry. the insurance co will say that a functioning rear-end and working AC are expected on any roadworthy vehicle, and built into the market (bluebook) value. You aren't gonna like that story, but it does make sense...

You're not likely to get much but I'd try. Anything you get will be gravy, even if they only give you .10 on the dollar.

since a few people may want some thng offf of your truck would it be worth your time to buy it back from the Insurance Co and part it out? any thing you can not sell here go to e-bay. just a thaught.

Take the Blue Book price and buy it back from the insurance company. Usually they will give you a good price on the buy back, because then they don't have to deal with disposing of it. Use or sell whatever parts you can and then call someone that will tow the rest away for the value of the scrap metal.
