Subject: 5.9 turbo on a 3.9 IP: Logged
Message: My friend has a turbo system on his 5.9 r/t, and he ran 7lb boost. He is selling his truck, and taking off the turbo and offered it to me for 500. Will I be able to modify a 5.9 r/t turbo for a 3.9 engine? And if I put it on, is there anything else I'd have to change with my truck to handle the added stress? I'd even be willing to run low boost as my truck is a daily driver.

Message: Well first of all, you have a V6, and he has a V8. So the exhaust manifolds will be different and you will have to find those somewhere or custom make them. I don't think 7 lbs of boost is quite much so I wouldn't worry about stress on your engine. If you wanted some real power, you could upgrade all your engine internals and crank the boost up. If it was my truck that is what I would do first.

Message: I don't really want the amazing power boost or anything...I just want to take my truck from 16's down to 15's or even 14's...It's no race truck, but I was hoping the turbo would do well on it....so all I need is a new exhaust manifold?
