Message: A few tips:
Any horsepower & torque that you regain by eliminating parasitic losses is more hp & torque that's available to propel the vehicle. Get an electric fan and replace the crank pulley with a smaller one. That will gain you 5-10 hp.
Go to a cooler (180 degree) thermostat. That may gain a few hp (probably less then 3). but will result in better drivavbility.
Ditto on relocating the IAT (Intake air temp sensor) out of the intake. That will prevent a loss of hp & torque on hot days.
Going to a ported or billet throttle body will gain you as much as 12 hp over the stocker. Prices run from $250-$400
A set of Harland Sharp 1.7:1 roller rockers will set you back about $300, but will net you at least 15 hp.
A MOPAR Performance PCM will get you at least 25 more ft lbs of torque, and genearlly improve the truck's drivability and power throughout the rpm range. That will run you about $335 with the proper VIN flash (a requirement on your '99). The only drawback is that you can't tow anything over, say 2000 lbs, and you must use premium fuel.
A good set of headers should be next on your agenda. They'll net you at least 15-25 hp, especially if you use a better Y-pipe then the stocker.
If you're running a 3.55 ratio rear, moving up to a set of 4.10's will really help matters. No hp gain, but the torque multiplication (read that as better acceleration) will sure put a grin on your face! Prices (and milage) may vary.
An M1 manifold will wake up your truck's mid-high rpm breathing, that will run about $460 with the install kit.
Before you start modding, make sure that your belly-pan gasket isn't blown (a moot point if you're installing an M1, though!)
