Message: I am not sure on the exact specifics on THAT engine.
However, usually smog pumps pump air into the exhaust stream. So if you just pull the belt and or pump make sure you remove the lines to the exhaust and cap them. If you don't HOT exhaust gases will come through these lines, eat up any rubber fittings, etc.
Been there done that.

Message: andy5053 i was thinking the same thing for mine (91' 5.2). the only thing i thought would be bad was if there were a sensor for the computer relating to the smog pump. i was also goin to remove my AC(i already never use it, i blast the heat full time). let me know if you have any problems.

Message: the smog pump pumps air into the exhaust system on these early cat controlled systems, and the O2 sensors really go to heck and take your gas milage with it if you remove them. On another forun I have seen 87 octain selling for as much as $2.22 a gallon and this is only early March.

Message: incorrect i have done this mod on my 91 and have not had anyproblems since. All you need is a belt tensioner pulley off of the magnum as well as the bolt that was in the magnum pulley and thats it you do need to find the correct size belt to get rid of it. You will need to plug the hole in the passenger side exhaust manifold. if you can get the bolt out that hild the air tube in then you can get a block of plate from a dealership or make your own. then cut the tube down near the cat and weld it shut or just clamp it and youll be all set and you might even see a gain in mileage
Good luck

Message: i have a 90 dak 4x4 with 400+ thou kms on it and one of the first things i did to it a year ago was rip of that stupid thing, it siezed up and burnt the belt any ways
it had its own belt on my truck so i just had to replace the bolt that went through the water pump mount.. there will be no computer problems as long as there isnt a o2 sens BEHIND the cat.. and if there insnt you can even replace the cat with a chunk of pipe from canadian tire ......this is what i did on mine and i live in alberta canada eh
so i didnt have to wory about smog police....
the only problem i could see if you removed the air pump and left the cat is the cat MAY plug up....if you dont drive it hard once in a while cuz the idea of the air pump is that it pumps in extre oxygen to help get the temps up in the cat to more completly burn the unburnt fuel
91dakfreak its non magnum the mag front accessory drive parts do not interchange with non mag..
