I like LSD myself. I was just stating that there are some people that get the false impression that they rule the road in INCLEMENT weather just because they have both rear wheels or all 4 wheels pulling them. If one wheel ever spins (hydroplane) they all spin. For people that can't drive, the open rear end 2wd is the safest option.

If it improved safety in any way, the insurance companies would recognize the LSD option as a safety enhancement and your insurance would cost less. They do not recognize LSD or 4wd/AWD as a safety feature. They will raise your insurance if you have these options.

I have an open diff. in mine - 3.55's. Now SOMETIMES,,,,,,SOMETIMES I can breifly burn out w/both tires on the road,,then it's one wheeled wonder time. Same way in the dirt too.

However - we got about 3-4 inches of snow a few weeks back and buddy of mine has me on video laying waste to my 10 acres in front of my house. I was surprised that 90% of the time both tires where spinning in the mud/ice/snow. Even when I got stuck, and rocked it out, they both where spinning.

I didn't realize an open diff. would lock up like it did. I wonder if that means there's a problem with mine???????(and yes I've checked the sticker to double sure...)

I hope not - back in Oct.,,last year?,,,I had a nice little run-in w/the center median doing about 50-55mph. Smashed the driver's side, and bent the driver side axel. The ins. company wouldn't even look at the diff,,but afterwards it would *pop* really loud going around large corners. After a while it went a way,,and now I have quasi-lsd?,,What's up w/that?

An LSD is just like an open diff. but it has a series of clutches that are activated when one tire loses traction, the clutches grab on to the other tire and give power. but not full power because it it going through the clutches not the case. So if you jack up an LSD they will spin in opposite directions unless you can spin it fast enough to enable the clutches. The reason they don't turn the same way is becuase that would be a full time locker... not good for corners, your inner wheel will start jumping and if you gunned it during a turn with a full time locker, you may break your rear. both physically and metaphorically
