I just replaced my tstat with the Robert shaw and immediately after I ran my truck for about 1/2 mile and it was already hot. I did nothing special but drain through the draining hose and removed tstat and put the new one in. Am I missing something? I put the original stock back in to try and remedy the problem but to no avail. If anyone could please help I would appreciate it. I would like to drive to work monday. Hehehe.

No I checked that when I replaced the new one back to the original stock one. Even read the directions after the first time. Unless they changed the directions for the 4.7. It has me dumbfounded I hope I didn't do anything to mess the truck up. We will see when I take it in on Monday to the dealership. Thanks anyway.

if T stat is in correctly check coolant level sounds like air in system, if that was all you did.

Most likely air in the system. Drain some fluid out ( enough to uncover your radiator core), and run the engine with the radiator cap off. Once the thermostat opens the air should vent out, and you should see a significant drop in fluid level. Then refill your system.

Does anyone know the part number for the t-stat for the 4.7? The Robert Shaw GT755-180 isn't listed for the 4.7. Does it still work or is there a different one for it?

Thanks

I was told that one is correct. I have seen a couple of other post where they have used these and had no issues. The strange thing is I saw no gasket on mine. Did not put one on and still had no leaks. It had a plastic ring that housed the t-stat. I guess that is what formed the seal. I will attempt the 180 tstat again this weekend knowing about the plug that needs to be pulled to keep the air pockets out. Thanks for all of your help.

4.7 has no gasket smitty, that plastic on the t-stat is the gasket jus make sure both surfaces are clean, easy way to drain it is get a lil peice of hose put it on the draincock and into a bucket, helps if you jack up the truck,if you want to drain the overflowtank open the draincock with the cap still on this will drain the overflow tank first ,engine cold of course:) then cap off an let drain when u fill it tighten drain take off lil bleed plug by the cap an fill till coolant comes out it,put plug back an keep fillin rad as much as u can,put cap back on fill over flow tank, start it up with the heater on,let it get hot and then cool down an check the level in the overflow, fill as required, hope this helps ya,later
