I'm in the market for a used vehicle... I've read alot of the pro's and con's for dakota's, and s-10's and in your opinions, after hearing your complaints and praises on the Dakota, is it worth getting a pickup- if so what kind??

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Get one with a V8 . Either 5.9 or the 4.7 . It will give you the power you need when you want to pass or tow , but the gas mileage is not too great . Who cares about gas mileage anyway!!
Dakotas are a good size pickup. Its not too small and not too big. They drive really well and the turn radius is great ! Also if you have any problems with it, you've come to the right place for all your needs on your truck! There are
a few smart asses on here ,but everyone here is willing to help another Dodge owner!

All vehicles have good and bad responders. Overall the diffrence between brands is probably plus or minus 2 percent. Figure out what you want it for and get the cleanest lowest milage vehicle that meets your need from a reputable source. I've had Chevy's(S-10 & 1500), Dodge's(Dart & Dakota), Mazdas(RX3,RX4,RX7,626), Honda Prelude, Porsches(911 & 912) and several others. Stuff broke on all of them. The Porsches cost the most to fix. The others were all about equal and gave good service for their purpose. You can't pull a horse trailer with a Porsche, but a Dakota won't do 150 MPH.

I must be one of the smart asses, because I think the gas milage is fine - you can't expect a truck's milage to compare with a Honda's. I once had a '73 Cutlass with a 350 that got 12 mpg. My heavier 4 wheel drive Dakota with the 4.7 makes more power than that 350, and I get 15 mpg, not even trying for good milage. If you need a truck, the Dakota is a great choice.
