I have a 98 V6 auto w/48K on it. Went to start it this morning and recieved a small click and nothing. No turn over at all. The usual lights came on so I'm pretty sure it's not the battery. I put it in neutral and it seemed to want to start, barely, but didn't. Back in park, nothing.Back in neutral and it started after about 3 tries. I noticed last night that when my wife killed the ignition ,the tranny wasn't completely in park.I think it turned off somewhere btw R and P. Could this be a factor?

Any theories or proven fixes out there?

Also, the wife drove it to work after I got started
and killed it and restarted w/no problem.I live in Atlanta and it's about 30 something degrees here but I've never had any tough winter starts until now...

i know on my 97 if you turn off the engine with out the truck in park you can not take the key out. so i don't think that is your problem.

clean the battery post and cable ends > your most likely getting enough juice to run the dash lights but it breaks contact whrn you hit the starter

If your volt meter takes a dive when you turn the key to start position it's probably time for a new battery. If it drops a little or not at all then do what SUDZ5 said, if not that then check the starter.
