Message: I have not decided on the gains vs. the losses of the M1 intake yet. I know for a fact that the exhaust manifolds on these things SUCK! Anything after fall 1993 needs either the old 92-93 exhaust manifolds put on or headers. I'm probably going to put on a set of chrome plated Gibson headers this summer. They are about $360.00.

Message: I put a set of chrome Gibson Shorties on my '01 R/T and love 'em. Just a real challenge to get to the bolts they give ya to mount them. I believe I have invented some new cuss words after it was all done. The stock exhaust came off like a breeze. The Gibsons mounted up perfectly to the exhaust pipes and I have had no leaks and no check engine lites. Been about 4 months now. In my opinion, I am really glad to have something that breaths better than a pair of stock manifolds. Definately worth the coin, plus I hate using this expression but, the "butt dyno" feels something extra in the mid range. Whatever makes my butt happy!!

Message: Gibson makes a decent product but go with the PPH headers and get a new y-pipe too. That will get you the most gains.

Message: b1llyw,
Who makes an aftermarket y-pipe? What is your opinion of the Edelbrock headers? I found a set yesterday from Summit for $313.00 and they are chrome plated stainless. The primary tubes looked to be closer to equal length than the Gibsons. Also the bends and the collectors all appeared to have as smooth if not smoother transisions than the Gibsons. The stainless Gibsons is like $450.00 and they aren't chrome plated. I'm thinking seriously about the Edelbrok headers.

Message: Edelbrock headers are decent. But the ones you are talking about are still shorties. Their TES headers would be a better choice for performance because they do include a new y-pipe. PPH are a little more than the Edelbrock TES but they flow better, bigger primaries, and heavier gauge.
JBA sells separate y-pipes for some appications.

Message: In my opinion headers really aren't worth the money. My friend put a pair on his R/T and it made minimal difference. He had an M1, Air intake, TB, and exhaust...he said it wasn't worth the money because you are really only looking at 10-15hp gains for around $300-$500..Save up for a supercharger.

Message: What did that combination as a whole get him? What kind of power would it have made without the headers? It's all about the combo. Intake mods, pcm mods, exhaust mods all add up. They'll make more together than individually. And as for superchargers, I love 'em. And you will definitely need headers when you get a blower. You want your exhaust as free-flowing as possible then.

Message: That's an easy answer. PPH makes the Mopar headers for '96 and up. Thorley made 92-95. They're our preferred header in the shop. It's just cheaper to buy the PPH's and skip the Mopar name on the box, lol.

I think the M1 will give you a bigger gain then the headers at the point you sit currently with mods. If you add 1.7 RR at the same time you will notice no low end loss.
Just My opinion

Message: rtspeeddemon: Edelbrock TES flow decent. I'd run them, we just like the PPH more. I think M1 and some 1.7's before or after the headers.
Capone: get the Thorley's, definitely.
We sell them by the way. :)

Message: 2k1r/t,
Well, I know that a 93 5.2L CC Auto is about 1.4sec faster in the quarter than a 94-95 5.2L CC Auto. The major difference between the 92-93 and the 94's-up are the exhaust manifolds. If the 92-93 exhaust manifolds make that much difference then headers should even be better. Most people that have had the 92-93 5.2 Daks and the 94-up Daks know there is a big difference in performance between the 2. My 93 5.2L would run a 14.9. My 94 5.2 wouldn't even do a 16.0. I learned several years after I got rid of the 94 that the exhaust manifolds were smaller from 94 on. There is a lot to be gained on the 94-up 5.2/5.9L engines with headers. If your running a 92-93 5.2/5.9L then your probably right about the cost not being worth the minimal gains. Anyone with a 94-later needs to either find a set of 92 manifolds or buy some headers.
