Subject: Mopar PCM won't start IP: Logged
Message: Just bought a Mopar PCM off eBay. Installed it, truck initially would run for 5 seconds and die. Now it just cranks. I've reset the computer again, no luck.Seller said it had NOT been flashed for VIN or mileage. The PCM is correct year and motor ('00 5.9), but mine is 4x4 and this for a 4x2. A few others here have tried the 4x2 PCM on their 4x4's (Halo) and it's worked for them. Any ideas?

Message: Next time you go to start the truck listen for the fuel pump to kick on just befire you crank it...should come on after the first click of the key forward. Sounds like its not operating the fuel pump. The same thing happened to me when i tried installing a 99 r/t computer on a 98 r/t motor. hope that helps...mike

Message: I reinstalled the stock PCM-truck runs fine, so it's the PCM. I'll try the fuel pump tonite. "oh my god"...everything i've read says it should @ least start, but I might get a "check engine" light. The guy on eBay I bought it from is willing to give me a refund - that's cool!

Message: Man I think that if the vin is not flashed into the PCM all you will get is ABS light for vin mismatch.I hate to say it but do you have the skim option on your truck and if so that could be your problem. Also there is a difference between the 4x4 4x2 programing.

Message: no..its not the vin number..that would just cause the abs light to come on...it's just that ma mopar wouldn't let things be as easy as using the same computer for all the same year trucks..i seriosly will bet your fuel pump isn't coming on!! Again hope this helps!! mike

Message: The VIN in the PCM will not keep it from working in another vehicle. The security system may. If the original owner has a factory security system, the PCM will work work in a truck that does not have the security system. If the buyer has the security system the PCM will work. I've have a used VIN flashed pcm that works in my 99 Durango. Both of us had the security system. I've tried my stock PCM in a non security system equipped vehicle, and it does not work. I've also tried a non security equipped PCM in my truck. (Dan Arcand aka Fastman) Thank goodness I did not activate the alarm The security system is not in the PCM (the same part number works for both) but something gets set in the PCM when it is activated. This has gone around and around. I read from others on Dodge forums who have come to the same conclusion that it is the alarm feature.
Note this is not talking to those who have the security key. I'm not sure what year that was introduced. I have the fob activated alarm.

Message: To finish up this post (@ least for my part)...the truck doesn't have a security system, so I'm ruling that out. BUT it is a CA emissioned truck, and a 4x4. The PCM was for a Federal 4x2. That could be the difference. I couldn't tell for sure, but I'm guessing 94DAKRT's fuel pump diagnosis is on target. Thanks for the feedback.
