Subject: fuel gauge problem IP: Logged
Message: The problem is that my fuel gauge will only go up to about 1/8th of a tank. It works below 1/8th and the fuel light works as well. I took the gauge out to see if it was getting stuck and it seemed to be fine. I also tried banging on the tank but it didn't help. Any input would be appreciated.

Message: I just replaced my pump due to several reasons one being that my sender was worn out. When I installed the new pump and filled the tank I had the same issues as you are describing, the 1/8th tank and idiot light. its likely the flot on the sender is hitting the inside wall of your tank. Mu mechanic fixed mine the other day by simply rotating the pump so the float moved away from the tank wall. Hope this helps, none of the manuals I have seen will tell you the correct orientation for the fuel pump even though there is an arow indcator on the pump and lines on the tank. When we installed the pump we just guess at the orientation because we didnt think it mattered. Give that a shot.
