Subject: what would you do? IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone.
I have a v6 94 dak, manual 5 spd club cab and am wondering what would be my best choice here. I've been reading lots around and have a good idea but need some help from the experts.
First I just bought a house so there goes the idea of a new truck for the next couple of years or dumping huge amounts of dough into this one.
Naturally I want, no, need more power out of my V6. it's got 230,000 kms on it and runs really well. No leaks, problems etc. Needs a tune-up...But I dont' want to add little things for minimal gains. I'm looking for the big stuff now then add all the little touch ups.
My options are...
A: Find a wrecked newer v8 dak and do an engine/computer swap.
B: Do some work, rebuild my current engine and put a stroker kit into it..$$$$
C: Find a turbo setup and have installed...make sure engine/tranny can handle it or run a lower boost if possible.
Now I know these will cost some dough with A: probably being the cheapest and B being the most expensive.
I'm not great with knowledge about performance and increasing HP but I'm looking for something to get my v6 some power to get out of it's own way.
Also, some of you might suggest gears and I'm not sure what I have now but I can really launch out of 1st real quick and use up the power band very quickly and yet 5th on the highway sucks.
HOw do you 5.2 guys find the manual 5spd through the gears? Is 5th gear much more reponsive with the extra two cylinders? PRoabably a redundant question but I've never test driven a 5.2 5spd manual.
Thanks

Message: If restricted to your list, I'd go with A. I know how you feel, I suffered a 4-banger yota for many years for the same reasons. Just flogged the hell out of it to try to make it go. From your name, I'm guessing you might be in the rust belt (road salt), and a 10 year old truck can really start to nickel & dime you to death - brake lines, fuel lines, old wiring etc. Might be best to just start saving for a v-8 truck and keep your eyes open for a good deal.
