Subject: Colorado faster than v8 Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: Hey
don't rag on me if this has been posted already.
The new Chevy mid sized pickups are now surfacing at dealers.
I drive A 2000 CC 4.7L 5speed Sport+ and have gotten extemely tired of handing S10 owners asses back to them from stop lights.
The NEw Colorado/Canyons look to be a worthy challeng on paper.
They come with the 175 HP l-4 and a 220hp l-5, not all that impressive.
I looked into the curb weight of the Colorado though and the base 2wd RC standard only weighs 3100lbs! Upgrade to the 5 cylinder and it only adds 50 pounds!
The Colorado sport will come with sport suspension, monotone body colour and 17" rims with whatever engin you want. I have heard rumors that the next extreme my get a inline 5cylinder Turbo!
Dakota 4.7L 5spd RC is around 3800lbs isn't it?
Has anyone ran one of these Inline 5cylinder regular cab manuals or heard 1/4mile times on the new Colorados?
The next gen Dakota will have to step it up now. I think I can spell out the answer.

Message: slow @ slow mph
220 hp but only 225 lbs torque... you got 70 more than him and a flatter torque curve.
I forgot which magazine it was i read, but they did a test of all the new trucks and the Colorado was the slowest... but it was compared to full size trucks.

Message: My QC 4.7 auto weighs in at a hefty 4800lbs!!!
Verified at a stone dealer before I picked up some materials.
Thats with me, fiberglass bed cover, tool box, and several tools. Not to mention the knee high pile of McDonalds wrappers in the back seat.

Message: Motor trend tested the CC Colorados and Canyons but they were 4X4 and Club cabs with the Beefy offroad suspension(weight like 3800lbs). They were very slow though MT said and showed.
I think the 3100lbs sport version might give me a good run though. Still looking for the numbers from a test on this specific model.

Message: 3100 lbs seems awfully light for that truck, where did you get that figure? These trucks are bigger than the s10's. Payload capacity went down despite the extra hp. GM should of put a V8 in this truck or at least the 275 hp 4.2. What a polished turd of a powertrain for this truck.
GM strikes out again.

Message: GM left the compact segment and is now in the midsize segment to compete with the dak. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring a respectful powertrain with them. HAHAHA
I'm guessing the truck weighs about the same as the dak now.

Message: Chevy lost me when they didn't have a small V8 truck. Colorado is a glorified S-10, new look but still gutless.
I weighed my 82 V8 S-10 at the track years ago and it was 2850#. Stripped RC Colorado at 3100#,,, maybe.

Message: From Edmunds.com review:
Driving Impressions:
The new inline engines deliver smooth, refined power, but their off-the-line punch is a little disappointing. Even still, either engine provides the kind of midrange torque and higher-rpm horsepower necessary for most day-to-day driving.
Cons
Still not as big as a Dakota, no V8 option, can't tow as much as the competition.

Message: Ever since the engine knock problems of the 5.2 and bigger v8's of the GM powertrain line, I will never trust GM again. How can a automotive company, who's pride and public trust hinges on its powertrains alone, send out trucks with these problems? Before you Dak owners with a bad taste in your mouth from ball joints go running off to the GM dealer.... let them roll a few years on the road and let the chumps test em out.

Message: When they new I was ordering my 01, quad cab dak, they had me do a survey on this truck before it hit the market.
Well, I had researched my choice well, and ordered it exactly how I wanted it. Anyway, when they described this POS, I can tell you, they didn't use my opinion in the decision on this truck. I read about the larger engine option, the I-5, LOL!
This is a glamerous shevy LUV truck.
What barfs me out, is that Edmunds compares the Dak Quad, to the Explorer sport trac! WTF, what could you compare there? they both have 4 wheels, and 4 doors! What else? What a POS!
