Subject: Pulling power IP: Logged
Message: I have a rebuilt 360 in my 78 4door crew cab i need more pulling power. It has 340 intake, flat top pistons, 650 eldabrock carb, boerd 40 over, RV cam and the truck has 410 gears. It starts of the line good but has NO top end power after 30 to 40mph. Would it be better to go to a BB 440 or go with a differen't gear or is there something that can inprove the 360 like changing the cam and putting haeders on.
Thanks: Derrick

Message: Overall, you have a decent package. when you re-did the engine, did you freshen up the ignition as well? Good valve springs? You should play around with the jetting/fuel mixture. You may be too lean. With a 3-speed tranny and 4.10's you should still be doing better than that (70-80mph). Naturally, a good exhaust with headers would help. Even a set of the 90's Magnum exhaust manifolds would flow better than your stockers. Have a good dual exhaust plumbed in. Again, gears help, but with a 3-speed you're gonna hurt in any sort of distance to travel. If you have the resources and time, a mellow 440 would just flat out be better for towing. You could step up to 3.50-series gearing and still outdo the current setup. It'd run easier and do better in the gas mileage dept.
