Subject: WHEEL SPIN! IP: Logged
Message: I have just bought a 1997 dakota sport, V8. I would like to install some power upgrades, ie: exhaust, cold air intake, etc. My only problem is that I have noticed even on a dry road if I accelerate too hard (about half way to the floor) that I get alot of wheel spin. And it is much worse in rain, or snow without the 4x4 on. I was wondering what kind of upgrade I could get or look into to fix this problem so I can increase my horsepower. Thanks alot and any help would be greatly appreicated.

Message: Wheel spin is a bad thing for performance. It's wasted power (and rubber). Before replacing any parts, make sure everything is as it should be. No air shocks, proper tire inflation, no broken springs, etc. Once everything is working correctly, then it's time to do some mods.
First and foremost, better tires. Get as wide as you can; more rubber on the road = better traction. I don't know where you live or what you plan to do with the truck, but balance those two things against better dry street traction. For example, Nitto 555R's will give you great traction. But they can't carry a big load, and they are terrible in deep mud.

Message: If you have a one legger, ditch it for a limited slip unit. Twice the traction.
