It's black only if not all the fuel is burning. Modern diesels with electronic injection and catalysts don't burn rich and don't pollute nearly like they used to.

OK...perhaps someone here can help me. I am seeking information. Recently had a run in with local GM service dept over a lower intake gasket problem. As I am researching on the internet I am finding more and more info which is causing more and more questions. They charged just over 1500 dollars to replace lower intake gasket. Told me they had to remove engine. Since then 2 other mechanics have told me that it is not necessary to remove the engine to do this. Could someone out there clarify for me?
Also, 5 days after I got the van back, my air died. According to them, there is a hole in the condensor. Could this be something they did when engine was pulled? Is this common that everything dies at one time...LOL
Please help me resolve these issues by sendng info. I have little to no knowledge of cars and just can't seem to find a reliable mechanic. Hopefully armed with the correct information I can at least persue it with my local service dept.

Some class action suits are not to bad. My sister bought a super nice double wide prefab home but it come with the bad plastic pipe they was installing in these and others. She got flooded out 2 or 3 times a year and once was not home and lost all her carpet plus other damage. She was not even aware her home was part of a class action till she was contacted to provide proof of pipe problems in the form of paid bills. Long story short, She had every bill and she was not only reimbursed for every penny, they sent contractors out and replaced every piece of pipe in her home.

Piston slap is old news not to mention very rare, just think GM sells over 1,000,000 vortec motors each year and how many slap? not many I have yet to hear one myself.

Im not a Chevy guy but The big 3 havent been doing to good. The freaking JAPs are taking over the auto market.So as of now Im just for any american vehicles.I'm not looking a way to bash them.
Yea Toyota is made in the US but all that money is going back to the ching chongs. I bet they are over there laughing at us.

Yeah, it's sad that All the Japanese cars are doing better. But that's not their fault. It's ours.
They are selling good products now that run well and strong, while looking good and using less gas.
And they can still make good money because they are doing it with cheap labor.
However even American made vehicles are mostly made in other countries, and assembled in America. If they are at all.
I still have my American truck, and love it. But I am also looking at a Toyota for a 4x4. Just because bang for the buck, I can't make a Dakota do what an early 90's Toyota will on the rocks.
That, and I don't want to beat my Dak up. =)

yea it sucks that the forien carmakers are taking over america. but what goes up must come down. we all have our strengths and weaknesses. but if you think about it, maybe this is just what the big 3 relly need to kick them in the ass and start making a better product. and i must admit that they are responding and the big three are making some nice vehicles. if you go into the new 07 and 08 models they are actually nice. but if you ask me they are all pieces of crap. thats why there are mechanics and guys like me have jobs. its not a matter of if. but when, your car breaks down. american or forien.

totally agree brainj Without people that beat their cars and manufacters only building trucks and cars to last till the warrenty was up i wouldnt have a job and u have to love how they make somethings way more complex then they need to be
