Magnum engines suck because they are all underpowered. 5.9L is 245 HP and 5.3 which is much smaller has 285h HP. Hmmm Go Mopar. Go General Motors.

I would rather have a engine that has more torque then horsppower, that is where the new Vortechs lack, where good old cast iron magnum power takes over. Overheat one of those aluminum head Vortechs and you will have enough aluminum to make 500 aluminum cans. Overheat a cast iron magnum engine, you probably will drive away if the overheating is limited. Yeah those designes on the Dodge engine lineup is like forty years old. I would rather have a torque filled, decent horsepower engine anyday over a whinningm, oil burning, coolant leaking, piece of good boat anker that should be at the bottom of the lake.

I don't know about the Chevy 5.3 BUT I can tell you the 4.8 that is in my 2000 2WD GMC truck (Company vehicle) isn't all that compared to my Dodge 4.7!

The 4.8 has no initial power at all but then when it hits 4k RPM's it seems to take off like a rocket. My Dodge 4.7 has power right out the get go and tows like a mo fo!

Last week I had to go slightly north of Phoenix and on the slight mountains I noticed that 4.8 doesn't have sh*t for power on the hills unless you manually downshift and let the engine scream! This is on a LIGHTER 2WD RC GMC compared to my HEAVIER 4X4 QC Dodge.

No WONDER I fly by all the Chevy's going up the hills every time I tow my quads to the dunes!

HA HA! Like a rock? More like a Piston slap!
I'm not trying to start a war. I like different models from each of the manufacturers, Chevy included. But the Vortec I drive DAILY doesn't come close to my 4.7!

They have had so many recalls on all your Dodge engines, the 4.7 is a junk motor. You should carry an extra engine, trans, and radiator in your bed to ensure you get where your going.

Timmy, enlighten all us Dakota owners about these so called 4.7 engine recalls.........

Ahh, the sound of silence,,

wait a minute,,

whats that god awful noise I hear,,

Oh crap, it's a POS chevy 5.3 piston slapping like it's going to throw a rod out the side or the block. Poor guy probably just replaced the POS quick disconnect heater hose coupler made out of pot metal that rotted through in 2 years too.

Oh damn, NOW he wants to race. Hey I am up for it.

1st gear - The Dak's pullin strong and I got him by a truck length,,, and I can still hear that piston bangin away.

2nd Gear - I can see him in the rear view mirror,,, and BANG there goes his motor.

Hey, Since I am such a nice guy and don't flame on the Chevy sites like a prick, I am going to tow the poor b@stard to the local Dodge dealership so they can give him a $500 trade in for his POS on a new 04 HEMI.

Say it with us Timmy HEMI, HEMI, HEMI, HEMI, keep going, HEMI, HEMI, HEMI

Just keep repeating that, and with some luck and a couple acting lessons, you might be able to replace that 3 year old on the Durango commercial.

Forgot to mention that we are both stock, and both have posi. My mopar is geared at 3.55 and his pile of sh!t is geared at 3.73 (he says) I have 93'000 on mine, and he has 9'000 on his. I kick his ass now, so what would happen if his had 90'000 on it? I'm sure you can do the math....Well maybe not, chevy people are dumb. 2+2=4, Dodge vs. Chevy = Pissed chevy owner.

I am very impressed with the 4.7
I am actually HAPPY now that the dealer didn't have a 5.9 for me on the lot.

I have taken several trips now in my truck and most of the time towing my trailer with quads and camping gear. The other guys in the Tahoes and the likes can not even touch my 4x4 QC truck with my SMALLER motor. Too funny. One time these guys in their Tahoe kept fukking with me on I8 coming from the dunes. I brought my trailer (very breifly) up to 115 MPH just to pull past their wimpy 105 MPH limiter. I had to baby the throttle up there just to let them keep up in acceleration (until their 105 limiter).

Ha ha Chevy suckers. My truck is quiet as hell too. Especially at idle without the whirl of a clutch fan. Electric only and it doesn't overheat while towing either.

It's also nice to have power right off of idle as well. That 4.8 I drive is a DOG I tell you until 4k RPM's! That will blow up a piston slapping Chevy turd in a hurry trying to tow up a hill!

If Chevy is the heartbeat of America, we're due for a heart attack!

I here ya Big torque , the SS is so cheezy the simulated fresh air scoops on the bottom of the bumper are Aluminum painted plastic and dont even go to anything they are open holes. The SRT10 , SRT4 both could slaughter a SS Truck.
If you ever get a chance to drive a SRT4 Neon do it They would beat a Chevy ss Camaro in a 1/4 Drag .

Now THAT is pathetic. To beat a Camero SS in a 1/4 with a STOCK turbo 4 banger FWD.

I bet that makes the Chevy man cry!

I STILL don't think the 4.8 would catch back up to my Dakota and mine is a 4X4. The 4.7 pulls HARD off idle and equally as hard at 5500 RPM's.
When I have my trailer and two quads in the trailer and a kids quad in the bed, my truck will STILL smoke the tires off the line. Too easily sometimes.

I don't know much about the newer 5.9's. All the 360's I've had (old school) didn't fall flat on their face at only 4k RPM's like I am told the R/T's do. But a new 5.9 would still pull a stump out of at least pull a TRAILER much MUCH better than a 4.8. You can't let the engine scream 4k + RPM's the entire time! It is a CHEVY and that piston slappin biatch would fly apart!

My Chevy rules I'll tell you that, it takes off like a horse. Sometimes it sounds likea horse a gallapin, he is much faster of a horse of coarse, that Vortech 350 pulls hard and makes it all the way up to 95 MPH, then for some reason tells me it needs to slow down, must do that for fuel mileage, Darn thing near spins tires of the line, skreachen, power, sounds awesome. Check engine light comes on to let me know she's maken alot of power. Oh yeah my Chevy will blow your Dodge away.
