I recently lifted my dakota and added some bigger tires. My top end speed has dropped drastically. Is there a way to get this power back by a computer mod or something?

Changing out the ring and piniion in the diff will restore the proper final drive ratio to what it was. You need to go shorter (eg.3.55>>>3.92) to bring the engine RPM back to where it's producing max power at top speed.

There's lotsof calculators on the WWW for riguring out where to go based on the differences in tire diameter.

4x4? Gears would be the easiest fix since it's a gearing change that was effected to begin with.

I used to get better accelleration on my studs than my stock Goodyears.

You're also getting more aerodynamic drag due to the lift.

Get your final drive ratio back to where it was with a gear change. Power will still be less to to the extra air drag, rolling resistance & weight of the larger tires. Also the truck is now less aerodynamic do to the increased height. The larger tires and lift will probally cause a 2-3 mpg loss. Extra power adders are the only way to get the performance back, but the mpg is lost forever.
