I am completely retarded when it comes to mods for my truck (or any for that matter). I need to know which/what size cam would be best in a 97 Dakota CC 2wd w/ a 5.2l completely stock engine. I plan to start small on upgrades (cam, headers, FIPK, etc.) and work up to the big ones (Vortech supercharger, etc.). I have done nothing to modify the engine except a 40 series flowmaster single in dual out the back exhaust, which I would say is a pretty decent improvement for the money. Anyways what cam would work best and where should I start with improvements. I'm looking for cheap, quick, easy improvements that will show gains in the long run. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

The Mopar Performance Magnum RT cam package is a great little cam. Pulls hard through 6,000 rpm and also happens to be very blower-friendly. Get the springs and all....don't half-ass it or the little money you save now could cost you a lot later. This cam, or something in this range makes a fine street cam with or without supercharger. While you're in there, toss in some MP hipo pushrods. They're thicker and will not flex under the added loads of the cam/springs. No flex means full lift. Roller rockers will help. If you feel the need for a little more upper rpm power, get them in 1.7:1 ratio, instead of the stock 1.6:1. Then start lookin' at a larger throttle body and M1 intakake. That'll really wake the engine up with the aforementioned cam. MP high-perf computer will be needed at some point. If you don't want to run premium, see MSD for an ignition retard control. You'll definitely need the ignition retard (with hi-perf computer)when you add supercharging, as a lot of ignition advance and blowers don't mix well.
