I am sure I am not alone on this, my 99 r/t pulls hard til about 70 then on the expressway it seems to have mixed feeling on what to do, if you floor it at 75 it pulls not so bad but in certain rpm ranges like past 80 or 3000 rpm it pulls much slower. Is it a lack of air?? I am going to go with the group buy on the modified throttle body mabey that will help.

99 dakota r/t 180 deg thermo, bosch +4 plugs (work very well actually), 7 in K and N directly connected to air hat.

You should trade out that 5.9 for a 4.7

Assuming no mechanical problems, it could just be a matter of aerodynamic drag and gearing. Mine pulls great all the way through 2nd gear, then acceleration tapers off noticeably above 75 because I'm in third gear (way off the power peak) and the truck has the aerodynamics of a small house.

Yes, it does happen when I am in third. I bet a throttle body would help put in more air where it is needed on top. Possibly might lower it, not sure yet. I sure like the way my dads grand cherokee 4.7 pulls on top, pulling a snowmobile trailer and our two sleds is amazing with that thing.

RTJOHN, my 99 CC R/T did the same thing because the tranny would upshift and stay in third or 4th. I adjusted the kickdown pressure at the throttle linkage and it stayed in lower gears longer. I think I moved it one notch but cannot remember which direction. Got it off of a web page almost 2 years ago. Also, the trucks are like bricks in the air. My 2k QC is the same but with 3.55's cause I thought I would get better mileage....Wrong!!!!!

The problem is that with the gearing in the 5.9 when you hit 70 you start to leave the engines powerband. TO correct this either put a Supercharger or change the rear end. A throttle body will help you get to 70 faster but you will still see the decrease at 70. This is because the engine tranny set up is for towing even though its an R/T the engine and tranny are the same except for some computer tweeks and exhust and suspention.

Welcome to the great world of trucks. You have a 5.9 which is a torque motor, the vast majority of your power is low end, so don't expect alot of top end power, you just not gonna get it, the 4.7 boys have it because of there Ohc instead of ohv like a 5.9 and like my 5.2. But with some gearing changes that can be fixed.
