Subject: cat back exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I just put on a gibson cat back exhaust system on my 4.7L. Now I am having a problem when I rev up the motor at about 4000 RPM it starts to idle up and down a difference of 500 RPM or so and it wont rev any higher. Now I suspect that it is not getting enough back pressure anymore because the exhaust is opened up to a three inch exit. If that is the case will the comp re-learn the way it now operates? The other ? is this is custom exhaust from Gibson why would they build the exhaust and sell it if it caused the vehicle to not run properly? Did they build it to the wrong specs? If you have any knowledge or previous experience with this problem any help would be appreciated.

Message: Probably, you are having some coincidence. I don`t see a single exit pipe the cause of the problem. I use Gibson headers and single pipe instead of duals, cause the single doesn`t eliminate all the back pressure, wich is good for low rpm torque. As to your problem, start by running your hand on all the eletrical connectors and sensor around the engine. If it doesn`t work, the best thing to do is to take it to a dealer or someone that has the appropriated tipe of equipment, to avoid guessings, trying and errors and money spent unnescessarilly, not mentioning truck downtime. You have a 03 model and chances are that the problem is electronics related versus mechanical. Good luck and Merry christmas 03 dakota.
