I have a 98 dak with a 318. I am getting oil into my throttle body and intake manifold through the breather conected to the driver side valve cover. I changed the pcv valve and still have the problem, also did a compression test and it has great compression. Any other ideas?

Sounds like worn valve guides. It may be time for a valve job and replacement of valve guides which are worn and allowing oil to be sucked in.

Thanks, maybe this gives me an excuse to put magnum r/t heads on the truck.

Vic,
Worn valve guides allow oil into the combustion chamber BUT NOT INTO THE THROTTLE BODY AND INTAKE MANIFOLD, however worn rings or badly scored cylinder walls will allow enough blowby to happen to create enough pressure in the bottom of the block that the oil mist that exists in the block at higher rpm ranges will be blown through the breather as the pcv valve cannot handle large amounts of pressure, and it has to go somewhere.

I had the same problem ..... it is caused by removing the baffles in the covers.... and when the rockers splash oil at high speed the oil is sucked up the pvc and into the intake system .... you need to get aftermarket covers that are higher that sock or reinstall the baffles

Oil in the intake manifold sounds to me like the Belly Pan gasket. Its a common problem. I did mine a couple years ago.

I found these to be very useful when I did mine.

ok marky mark,
reread the first statement and stop & think, the plenum or belly pan gasket has nothing at all to do with the breather (where the oil is coming from). The statment clearly decribes where the oil's coming from and its not the belly pan!

Thanks for all of you opinions. I have the mopar performance valve covers, that are taller than stock. Are they tall enough? I Shouldn't have excessive blow by, my compression is exactly 135 psi in every cylinder,(is that enough?)and the truck doesn,t smoke at all. It only has 43000 miles on it. I'm just kinda wondering why the oil is there. It doesn't hurt the performance of my truck, but I am sure it isn't good for it either.

Are there any baffles between the breather filter and the valves below on the cover? I had the same problem, if there isn't anything cover the bottom side of the holes (for breather and PCV), then oil will shoot straight up into them. I had the exact problem and sucked up 7 qts of oil in 1,100 miles of FL-NJ travel. I made my own baffles and some people use Moroso? baffles. I'm not sure though. If you take the covers off, there are three screw oles on the under side (makes a triangle looking shape around the breather hole). If you make up your own baffles or find some, remember to be careful while screwing them down, the cover is alumn. and you don't want to split the holes.

Look at the stock valve cover breather/PCV holes, they have baffles to block the oil from getting up in there.

If you need advise of how to make your own, I'll try and give give you my best description.

PS, if you do make your own, make sure not to block the holes up entirely. Air still needs to get by, but not oil.

thanks guys. the valve covers were on the truck when I bought it, so I dont have the old ones to rob the baffles out of, but I can probably handle making my own. Thank you for your input.

Add-on baffles are available for the MP valve covers if you don't want to fab your own. Good luck.
