Subject: Mopar or No car! IP: Logged
Message: How many diehard mopar fans are out there? I own a 97 4x4 V8 Dakota, a 99 4x4 5.9 Ram, a 69 Dart GT convertable with a 360, and a 67 Plymouth Belvedere with a 383. I also previously owned a 78 4x4 Powerwagon 360, and a 86 4x4 Ram with a 318 both had 180k when I sold them
My dad and brother have owned 24 different Mopars over the years. These vehicles have proven to be extremely reliable and fun to drive. Chrysler made the best motor of all time, the 426 hemi.
Hemi race cars owners used to write on their cars " If you can't beat us ban us"due to all the restrictions the other guys put on them.. Chrysler made the fastest production car-68 hemi Dart / Barracuda, The current fastest American car for the past several years- The Viper. The new fastest truck- Ram V-10. I can see a new hemi Ram and Dakota in my future.
Any other mopar diehards out there?

Message: This is my first MOPAR. Sad to report that, out of the 14 vehicles that I have owned in my life, this one has the worst reliability/quality of any of them ('02 QC AWD Auto 4.7L). Even the '76 Super Beetle I had back in '89 didn't break down as much as this thing. Unless I start hearing some very positive feedback from my friends that work as mechanics and other DODGE owners, I doubt I'll be ever buying another DODGE.

Message: What a bunch of sorry replies. Had good luck with my 2K 4.7. First car was a '70 Coronet 440, also owned a couple of A-body Baracudas, '72 rallye Challenger and a '75 4x4 stepside. I don't know if those A-body hemis were the fastest but they were the quickest !

My father always had the best reliability out of Chrysler Corporation vehicles and it was nice to have some extra tune up parts to use when I first started driving. My Dakota influenced my father's purchase of his 2001 model.

Message: My first car was a 73 Charger SE with 400 engine, I only had it year or so, but left an impression! I have since owned very few Mopars (even though, I always had a soft spot for them). Instead, I went into the Sport Compacts (classified as “rice” by many of you). But even there, I managed to say on the “Mopar side of things”. I used a have a couple of Conquests and for the last 8 years have been racing 500whp Eagle Talon AWD, which is technically a Mopar! It might not be the type of Mopar that many of you would appreciate, but I am allowed to complete in local Mopar events :). You see the looks from the Hemi guys when get beaten by a 4 banger :).
I completed this circle by getting a ’98 Durango (soon to be supercharged) to tow my race car.

Message: This is my first and last mopar I will ever buy. I do respect the mopars of the past like the hemi cars and 440 6 pack cars but I`ll take an ls6 chevelle over hemi car of any kind any day. I do like my dakota rt but if I could go back to the day I bought it I would have bought the ss camaro instead. The way this thing sucks back gas is unreal. It probably gets the same milage of an old hemicuda thats ony runing on 5 cylinders and still couldnt beat it.

Message: Whiney? Ok fine but when your low 12 second 81 camaro gets better milage than your 15 second dodge truck (thats only about 400 lbs more) there has to be somthing wrong. I at first thought the milage thing was just my truck and somthing wasnt right with it, but I have read many other posts on the bad milage these trucks get. Ask a guy with a full size f150 lightening what kind of milage he gets. Its alot better than a lighter v8 dakota. I have owned more than 20 cars and trucks, some with little 6 bangers up to 500 ci 5500 lb cadillac and this truck gets the worst milage.
I love the look of this truck and I love the way it drives but I`m sick of puting gas in it. If I cant sell this thing I am puting a chevy LS1 in it and then it will be the perfect truck. The looks of the dakota r/t with performance and milage
If you want to call me a whiner, fine.

(thats my motto). I have no problem with other ppl owning 4x4, just not practical for me. curently own 2wd dak 98 318 stick, lowered a lot, but not too fast yet.

Message: Brian - Remember - a Dakota is a TRUCK - not a wanna-be muscle car - can your Camaro haul a 25 foot trailer loaded with crap, and carry 800 lbs of cargo in the trunk, and even THINK of moving down the street? My Dakota can! VERY easily! or maybe it wants to go 4x4-ing...FAT CHANCE! You're comparing apples to oranges.
When I wanna go fast - I climb into my little 86 Shelby Charger - and leave mustangs and camaros behind me - with a 4-banger! (of course the Turbo, Intercooler, K&N, computer, and a few other goodies seem to help......)
Dad's car - 74 Chrysler Newport Custom 400/4bbl
1st car - 75 Charger SE 318/2bbl
2nd car - 85 Shelby Charger 2.2Turbo
3rd car - 86 Shelby Charger 2.2Turbo
1st truck - 54 Dodge M152CDN Army Command Truck
251 flathead 6
2nd truck - 98 Dak CC 4x4 5.2 Shaker hood, K&N Borla headers & cat-back, Pistol-grip on Hurst shifter....and more to come
