Subject: Ram air for 3.9L IP: Logged
Message: I finally bought my first dakota and I'm very happy about it. Only had a few questions, first off since my truck seems a little sluggish and the mpg kind of sucks I was wondering what upgrades would help me with that. Also I found a ram air intake for my 3.9L and was wondering what it would do for my performance and mpg. Another thing, I see a lot of talk about autolite plugs and was wondering what everyone things of the Bosch platinum 2's? Any help would be appreciated,
Ben

Message: 1 milage will always suck with a 4X4 and it will seem sluggish due to the 4000 or so lbs it is pushing
2 slight gain in performance and maybe 1 mpg.
3 why put GM plugs in a Dodge? use Champion Truck plugs.
4 mechanic told me the reason my coil died was that the Bosch +2 and +4 plugs draw more current then the coil was designed to handle and to upgrade to a hi performance aftermarket coil. Right after that my ignition modual died, he said the plugs may have caused that too.

Message: I had the Bosch Platium +4's in 97 4x2 dak 3.9 v6. The plugs gave good performance, but ran too hot. The tips should have a slight brownish tint if running correctly. The Platinum +4's were had a white build up on them, running way too hot. I run them with an MSD system.

Message: I had the same problem with the Bosch. Might be the MSD? I also dicided that I would no longer use them after one fell apart in my cars's engine and then tore up my exaust valve. Dont want to do that to my truck. The bastards wouldn't even give me a refund when I talked to them.Much less take blame or help with the cost of a new valve. They would give me a new set, but I didn't want another.

Message: few things you can do to get rid of the slugishness on the 2003 v6 dakotas first thing is ditch the air box, k&n doesnt make a fuel injection performance kit for the 2003 yet, so good choice is to go with the airaid for now. you will want to move the cruise control unit foward about 2" but thats not a hard thing, you will also want to buy the superchips programmer to remove the load of restrictions off the floor on the thing, once you do those 2 things you should be tearing her off the line like a real beast. However you can allways go further but those are both make huge improvements the air intake change alone will make your acceleration much snappier.
face it the mopar paper fiter is horrible, and is very restricting. Hope this helps you out.
