Subject: High idle after FB TB install IP: Logged
Message: Hello there, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I recently installed a 50mm F&B throttle body on my 98 5.2l 5spd. Since the installation my idle has been high(bounces between 750 and 875 rpm. Also, sometimes the rpms are slow to return to idle afer acceleration. I get a check engine light after about 40-50 miles too. I have already replaced the IAC and am looking for suggestions on what to look for? Vacuum leak? Bad TPS? Any help with diagnosis/fix would be great.
I don't have access to a scan tool until around mid-january(buying a superchips programmer) and california autozones don't do free scanning.

Message: Same thing happened to me after I put the 52mm F&B on my R/T. It will go back to normal once the pcm learns. Mine did anyways. Just give it 30 miles or so.

Message: u need to know what that code was when the check engine light came on. u sure a vaccum line didnt pop off when u put the trottle body on. maybe u just dont see it. unhooked vacum line will make it idle high and surge. since u put a iac in it u can rule that out. check the tps voltage at idle. should be .5 - .7 volts. so many times at work id be doin a throttle body and i would knock some hose off the intake without knowing it.

Message: yup i reset the pcm. Today I noticed some new behavior. When I let off the gas, the the rpms won't settle to idle at all. I have to brake with the truck in gear to get the rpms down. If I go to nuetral the tach will stick at the rpm that I was at in gear. the rpms will only come down when I come to a complete stop. Would a vacuum leak cause the truck to rev at 2500 in nuetral and only idle once I come to a complete stop? Weird stuff ..... looks like I didn't need to order cruise control after all....
