Hello all,
I plan to raise my dakota up about 6.5' soon here, but I dont want to be under geared when I put the bigger tires on. What is a good web site to do some reserch off of for this matter. I was thinking of a 4:10 in the rear and a 4:09 in the front. Thanks.

Wouldn't different gearing in the front and back turn the wheels at different speeds? (assuming the wheels are the same diameter)

The front and rear final drive ratio must be the same. Otherwise the front and rear of the truck will try to travel at different speeds. Strange things will happen.

If you want to use different gears, then you'll need to match different size tires to maintain the correct FDR. I can't see any advantage to that, and I can think of a number of disadvantages.

The front and rear don't have to be the same, just very close. Years ago when I was heavy into 4-wheeling I would see this 4:09/4:10 setup in off-road magazines all the time. Unfortunately I can't remember why they would do it. JoshRS, why do you want to do it? Maybe someone else knows why it's done? Also JoshRS, you need to be more specific with tire size before anyone can give a valid opinion regarding gear selection. An ~6.5' truck could have a 2" lift with 36" tires OR a 6" lift with 29" tires. Quite ridiculous examples but you see what I mean, the tire is the key.
