Subject: idle increased after M1 and 50MM F&B
IP: Logged

Message:
Just had M1 and F&B 50mm TB installed and noticed idle a little higher than before. Sometimes erratic between 700 - 1000rpm. Anyone have a similar problem?

Thanks

Maybe you have a vacuum leak?

Would a vacume leak cause the idle to increase? I was wondering if the Throttle Body has an idle adjustment setting of some kind. I have lost the instructions but I thought that there was something about that. If so, it would seem to be a common problem.

I am no expert, but if you do as Sam says and you still have the same problem, check your IAC. I have a 4.7 and cracked the IAC (don't ask me how) it did the same thing and it would also die (sometimes) at low rpm's when I would accelaerate from a standstill (redlight or something). The problem stopped only after I replaced the IAC. Just somewhere to look.

a vacuum leak under the throttle body blades will cause the idle to go up a few hundred rpms and to bounce up and down. Did you follow the tighten sequence on the intake manifold? did you repeat it more than once? Did you plug all your vacuum ports? if you added a threaded nipple (i know the 4 bbl m1 you have to), did you use teflon sealant? Did you use a new throttle body gasket?

list can go on and on.

BACK-- (damn virus).

Don't mess with the blade position. Did you reset you pcm? Was your IAC dirty (oily)--

Where did you buy the TB? How long have you had it?

If you have problems beyond that, email me or call.

Sam

Sam,

I bought the TB from KRC. It's a new F&B 50mm and it seems to be fine. I had the M1 installed and the TB along with it. I don't know if the IAC was dirty because I didn't install it but I believe I can check it and I don't know if the PCM was reset but I can do that as well.

I have noticed that it seems to be getting a little better in the last day or so. Maybe the PCM is adjusting to it. It's only been about 150 miles. It probably isn't as bad as I initially made it out to be. So, actually, what RPM's should I expect the idle to be at, what is common on a stock 5.2? Right now, it's around 700-800. It's not bad, I just notice that it feels just a little higher than it was before.

I had nothing but a K&N before and a blown bellypan gasket. I replaced the kegger with an M1, added a 180 t-stat, F&B 50MM, MSD 6A, MSD Coil, Taylor Wires, Autolites, Accel Brass cap and rotor. It runs smooth otherwise.

Jeff
