Message: the pcm runs [shifts] the o/d on,the switch is basicly a on / off switch like the head light switch.
test the switch with a test light for power going in and out.the switch turns your o/d on every time the ignition is turn on[you already know that]but for testing you need to know its on.
remove the instrumint bazel and the switch is easy to get at.
i,m sorry i miss read your post i thought it said
the light would,nt come on.HAD A BRAIN CRAMP!
do the same with out test light, check the plug on back of switch/may need a new switch.
again sorry for long post.
good luck
Vern

Message: Have you been driving in wet weather? Check all wire connections going into your transmission for signs of age. 10 years can make a water tight connection less than water tight.
When it dries out, you will be fine if this is the problem.

Message: I'd call the dealer to find out if there is a relay for the overdrive, and how much that relay cost.
There are 2 speed sensors on your trans as well, 1 for input, and one for output.
It could be any of those items,
The speed sensor are $19 a piece, don't know if there is a relay.
You can also, goto autozone, let them scan your codes, it's a free service.
That might help you pinpoint your problem.
Do what vern says first, Check your switch. But, i doubt, that is bad.
Oh, don't forget to disconnect your battery, that might reset the relay, if there is one.
Just my 2 cents.

Message: Well I found the problem. The switch on the dash was the culperate. I pulled the switch out and took it for a spin. The OD worked fine, while still running I plugged the switch back in and same symptoms. While still running I unplugged the switch and still no OD. The turned it off and restarted. OD back in place. I took apart the bad switch (What a POS). The switch makes contact to prompt a relay or computer I don't know yet. I will be looking at a wiring diagram as soon as practical. No trouble codes before or after. New switch = $42.
Auto Zone has been banned by California Bureau of Automotive Repair. I guess that have not paid their Mofia dues to the state.
