Message: Hello all,
having just bought a 94 dakota ive been looking for upgrades and reading the older forums.
My first post is for those that want low rpm dyno numbers with an automatic, just disconnect the throttle linkage. this will let the trans shift into third at 25 mph. depending on stall and rear gear you should see 2k.

Message: Disconnect the throttle linkage? Do you mean the kickdown to the transmission? If so.....Hey look! It's nemrac!.....Walkin'. While this may seem like a simple solution, you will very quickly burn the tranny up...something many of us try to keep from doing. By doing this, you cut the fluid flow to critically low levels. It will die.....rapidly. Hook it back up, and if you've run it this way, change the fluid/filter, and adjust the bands. Oh, and pray.

Message: Do you understand that this is an integral part of the operation of the transmission? The kickdown......nevermind. Go ahead. Burn it up.

Message: Gen 1,
That's an interesting point you made.
I've seen posts by many other people that do the same thing.
I,m not worried, my 4.7 has got the real 5speed, the manual.
That's probably a good point you made about people with auto trannies though.

Message: Thanks Tex. Finally, some sanity. From the FSM....First sentence. "Transmission throttle valve cable is extremely important to proper operation." Sounds ominous enough to me. This kickdown has been at the heart of the Torqueflite design from day one. Leave it off and it'll burn up in a short period of time. After all the trouble we go through to maintain these things, is the damage from even one run worth it?
