Subject: Cost-Effective 4.7 Boost? IP: Logged
Message: OK folks. Big Q: After a couple of years now, what is the collective wisdom about cost-effective performance improvements (especially for torque) for 4.7? Won't consider anything that screws w/ warranty or which isn't obviously noticable improvement. Many thanks!

If you notice the improvement, it's gonna have screwed with your warranty. Period.
Good luck.

Message: Flyboy,
Given those constraints,,, HO cams and maybe intake. Intake depends on where you want your power, early or late.

Message: If you want torque, go with the Jeep HO cams. The intake raises the rpm where power is made. If your 4.7 is a 2000 you could get the Mike Leach flash too. These motors respond well to a bit more spark advance.

Message: And changing cam tanks the motor warranty, right? I like my truck so much that maybe I'll wait until warranty's done and then dive in. Thanks for the good feedback.

Message: I'm wondering the same thing. I'm gonna hint this to my dealer this weekend when I take my truck in for it's (included) maintenance.
I'm kind of wanting to do several things to my '03 Dak. One of them is installing a Supercharger. I think the dealer may notice that little additon right away and log it or something.
The other mod I plan soon is the HO or 206 Cam swap. I would think that if I do a clean enough job and stick to the HO cams that my dealer would never know in a million years unless they looked at the cam markings where ever they may be, if any!
I just installed my own home made electric fan contol that i built and I even wired into the factory wiring harness to read off of the stock temp sending unit. You can't even see my wires going into the harness. And my enclosure with my circuit board and relay would probably pass as a radio or lighting control.

Message: Nothing will void your warranty unless that specific part fails and causes breakage of another part. Simple fact here guys, if they try to void your warranty for modding they are breaking the law. Case in point, I put in the H.O Cams and intake at my local Jeep dealer, the only thing they asked was "are they Mopar parts?" and since they were, they had no problem putting them in, they didn't even bring up the warranty issue. Just don't break anything abusing you truck with mods on it and expect them to honor the warranty then.

Message: SO how about if I put the cams in myself but use stock HO cams? Will they be cool with that?
I really want to go with the 206 cams tho.
I still think I'll swap the cams and not tell them. They probably wouldn't notice.

Message: So dealer can do the cam w/ MOPAR parts and no problem w/ warranty as long as use is w/in warranty book constraints, right?

Message: Yeah,
The dealer didn't even check the parts to see if they were Mopar parts! I would go with the 206's myself, if you put them in be VERY carefull with the lash caps that you have to use, I heard they are really easy to lose, or fall in places they don't belong. The H.O. cams don't need the lash caps, and don't have any idle problems, the 206 cams are hard to get an even idle from what I have heard, but that could be with different throttle bodies that they were using, don't know how the stock one would work with them.
