Subject: "Death flash" question, and others- IP: Logged
Message: Hardcore carbureted Hot Rodder with a new (to me) RT. Did the fabbed cold air w/ drop in, moved the IAT (did nothing I felt) etc. The question I have is this- the computer has a clear sticker on it that says it was re-flashed in 99 for a recall. Is this most likely the 'death flash', and if it is A) how much is it killing performance and B) what to I do to restore it?
I'm going to install a ProCharger unit, and most likely a set of ported heads. (I have access to a set of Magnum heads and have to tools and abilty to do this myself.) What is the expected gain if the engine is otherwise stock? I was told 1.7's are a waste if I'm blowing it- never feel the difference. True?
Here is why I am so ignorant- if my 615" BBC with 550 hp of n20 is off due to conditions, we pill it up further. Our header tubes are 2.375, all this stuff is so small and high tech I don't know where to start- Air in air out, I know, but I don't want a finnicky pain in the neck after I open up the exhaust.

Message: Does this mean it was most likely the recall that was done? The 'death flash'? Will the timing pick-up mod work until the Pro Charger arrives or is it a waste of time?

Message: The timing mod WORKS..........I saw 4 degrees across the entire RPM board. Truck is more responsive. Probably added a good 10 HP to the rear wheels. Best Mod I've done and it was all free, only an hour to mod. Check KRCperformance.com for directions. My truck never would burn rubber from a stop. If I nail it now it, it'll lay a strip of rubber about 15 feet.
