Subject: Synthetic Gear/tranny fluid? IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased Mobil 1 synthetic gear & tranny fluid. It says it is ATF approved but doesn't say anything about ATF+4 approved. I called my local Dodge dealer who said it is important to only use tranny fluid that is ATF+4 approved since it has additives that the 4.7L V8 tranny needs. They weren't sure about the use of synthetic gear fluid. I have read some posts that claim they have experienced performance improvemnts such as smoother shifting, etc. Anybody have any experience using synthetic blends & know if its really safe to use or not?

Message: Sorry, just saw a recent post that addressed this question. Sounds like as long as its ATF+4 you can't go wrong. Any comments are still welcome!

Message: Just had my vehicle inspection/emission today. The dealer said synthetic gear fluid is highly recommended but the tranny fluid should be ATF+4 approved & if its not, don't use it! Mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid is not ATF+4 approved! They were not aware of any synthetic tranny fluid that is approved but I hear Royal purple is, I wonder what that stuff costs?

Message: AMSOIL has tranny fluid rated at ATF+4. Im actually getting my tranny flushed, new filter and dumping the AMSOIL in on Thursday. Not having the dealership do it though, they were unsure of putting it in so im having my AMSOIL dealer also autoshop put it in. I'll Report back then. Also gonna post under the SYN Tranny post here.
