Subject: Mopar PCM for 5.9L IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if a 98 Mopar PCM for a Ram 5.9L will work fine on a 2001 5.9L?
Mopar lists different part numbers. However, I thought the engines were the same.

Message: It may work but you're likely to pull a lot of troubles codes. I have heard that if your build date is June 2000 or before on your 2001 Ram - then a 2000 Dodge Mopar PCM will work.

Message: I am pretty sure it will not work, they changed to more o2 sensors after 99.

Message: I know of several guys that have done it successfully. They all had build dates of June 2000 or before. You're thinking of pre-cats. Not all '00 and '01 Ram's had pre-cats. It depends on where the truck was sold and whether the state in question required California, 50-state, or Federal emission. In Connecticut, where I live, it's Federal. I had an '00 Ram 360 with not pre-cats, an '02 Dak 4.7 with no pre-cats, and an '03 Hemi with no pre-cats.
