Message: Mr NO, you have tried the headers? If yes what do you have? Got the duals behind them? What kind of cats? etc etc etc please tell.
Few have them and those that do seem to think they do help. They've done a good job on every other car/truck I've installed them on. But I guess getting the air IN is the hardest thing and with other mods I'm sure Headers would help.

Message: Since the stock manifolds flow within 2% of headers, you should see a gain, but only a very small one. Headers have worked well on every other engine I've put them on too, because the stock manifolds were fairly restrictive. With efficient stock exhaust manifolds on the 4.7, don't expect to find significant gains with that change.

Message: Have you guys seen the size of the exhaust
port on the 4.7 head? It is so small. It is
considerably smaller than the stock exhaust
manifold opening. I have true duals and an
auto. it puts out 234rwhp. I think a port job
would be worth more hp than those shorty
headers. Lots of people have put them on with
almost no gain.

Message: Well. If Headers do little to nothing for our near STOCK 4.7's over what I hear is a pretty good stock manifold then I think headers may not be worth the hassle. Especially if they are like Headers of the past, i.e. blown GASKETS and needing to retorque the bolts every now and then. This will be the first V8 I've had with aluminum heads. I'd hate to have problems with the threads after re tightening the headers frequently.
Sounds like maybe I'll stick to plan A and just run true duals from the manifolds with dual HIGH FLOW cats and Flowmaster 40 series.
I like the sound of my single 40 series. There's absolutely NO DRONE that's usually associated with a Flowmaster at cruising speeds.
But I'd like to step it up a bit with true duals and an even LOUDER exhaust. It seems to strike FEAR in the little economy Ricer next to you at the light. Even if I don't win he'll still WISH his pop corn machine could sound like this!

Message: It would seem to me that headers would be one of the last mods to undertake, leading up to a radical 4.7. Try all the usual stuff first. D-C did too good of a job to waste your money. One small drawback to headers, is you freeze your butt off waiting for the engine to warm up in the winter (with no cat.conv.).
