Subject: Dakota 4x4 vs Firebird IP: Logged
Message: My husband and I were cruising down the street last night, a beautiful warm eve. We were in traffic and we ended up at a stop light in front with a late 80s Firebird to our left. The light turned green my husband started to cross the intersection and this Firebird decided he was going to give us a run, my husband stood on our Dakota as did this Firebird to about 45-50 mph our Dakota pulled the Firebird about a car length, when we both shut down. So you bad s10s v-6 4.3 when you can run with Camaros & Firebirds come see us in Sin City, we have a Drag Strip here where on Sat. night you can pay your money and run anything all night no classes no handicap just run. Until then talk about MAY BLOW CHEVYs on your own forums. This is a forum for BIG BOYS & GIRLS

Message: My last car before my Dak was a 98 Firebird R/A Formula 6 speed, it would run circles around my Dak. But talk about a bitch to get out of, it was like climbing out of a hole, and you could not see the last 30" of the frontend from the drivers seat.

Message: I have had an '88 Camaro, I don't even know what trim, but it was a piece. Carbed 305 with a one legger rear and auto tranny. No mods, in fact, it has over 100K miles on it and is not in good running condition at all, but I can promise you it will run a better quarter than a any stock V8 4x4 dodge. The thing I have come to understand about Dakota owners is that when they leave someone at the light, most cases the other person not even racing, they call it a win. They exagerate beyond belief and this is just another case. Frankly, it pisses me off to listen to people who have tricked THEMSELVES into believing their stock Dak just beat that brand new Stang GT or Z28. Granted a late '80s model firebird is far less of a stretch, but I have driven almost that exact car in pretty bad shape and a 4x4 Dak is no match.

Message: Last month at the local track an '03 Mustang GT couldn't get below 16.5 in the 1/4 mile. Stock, at sea level and about 65 degrees outside. He tried a half a dozen times and was pretty disgusted over his 5 month old car. He even lined up beside an extended cab Chebby 4x4 with a 327cid who ran a 17.4 in the 1/4 mile with dual exhaust and not sure what else.

Message: All I know is that my 90 GT mustang is WAAAAAY faster than my dakota and it sure as hell doesn't run 17's like my truck does! I'd say my GT is like a 14.5 or so in the quarter.
p.s. that firebird was definately a 2.8 or something

Message: The best documented times for a totally stock '99-up GT are in the mid 13's (nothing below 13.5 as far as I can find). I've personally run 13.82's with a stock '00 GT 5 speed, and several of my fellow enthuasiasts have also hit these numbers. It depends on the driver...and some of the cars make more power than others, too.

Message: You guys are hilarious. Who cares if a camaro or firebird or mustang or even a pinto COULD outrun you. Does it really matter? They (pinto exluded LOL) are supposed to be "sports" cars and are "fast" in most peoples minds. We drive trucks. Trucks are meant to haul stuff. You wanna make it a fair fight? Throw another car on a trailer and tow it down the 1/4 and see what you turn. I bet my truck will beat your GT... As side notes, my roomate had an 85 camaro with a rebuilt 305 and holley 4-barrel. I raced him and just walked off. Neighbor has an 80 something model firebird. He had a running start and I hawked him down quick. I almost creamed him cause when he let off I shot right up to his bumper. I've ran several mustang GT's. Some 5.slows some 4.sh!ts The ones that I knew were worked on I just toy with and let them go cause I'm not stupid. My truck is pretty fast but it's still over 2 tons of 4 wheel drive and with a 4" lift it's not real aerodynamic either. The 3 STOCK GT's I've raced I beat.
